WC White Scrimmage - Sunday 7/31

Time out on the field after we scored two quick goals to start the scrimmage.

 Blast off.

                                                             Rachel running by someone....again.
                                                    Paulo watching....always watching...
                                                     Grace breaks loose.

It felt strange in the 2nd half....first time this practice season the girls have played when it didn't feel like a sauna.

Sounds like a Paulo practice....

Famed dutch soccer club Ajax Amsterdam, having produced players from Johan Cruyff to Wesley Sneijder, is considered by legions of American youth coaches as a model for youth development.  Checking out how top clubs around the world approach player development can provide some ideas on how we coach American children. Jan Olde Riekerink, Ajax’s Head of Youth Development, said, “We always look for [soccer players] first, but to stay up with the modern game we must develop athletes to compete at the top international level. But enjoyment must come first. That’s the basis for all our coaching: if they don’t have fun, we don’t do it. We don’t make them run in mud just because it’ll make them stronger.”

“I am never looking for a result — for example, which boy is scoring the most goals or even who is running the fastest. That may be because of their size and stage of development. I want to notice how a boy runs. Is he on his forefeet, running lightly? Does he have creativity with the ball? Does he seem that he is really loving the game? I think these things are good at predicting how he’ll be when he is older.”

Sokolove reported that through age 12, players train three times a week and play one game on the weekend. “By age 15, the boys are practicing five times a week. In all age groups, training largely consists of small-sided games and drills in which players line up in various configurations, move quickly and kick the ball very hard to each other at close range. In many practice settings in the U.S., this kind of activity would be a warm-up, just to get loose, with the coach paying scant attention and maybe talking on a cell phone or chatting with parents. At the Ajax academy, these exercises -- designed to maximize touches, or contact with the ball -- are the main event.”

Buckeye Premier GU13 Elite

Quick look at the teams in our division, and their record in the spring...If I misidentified any of the teams, please let me know....

1)  Classics Premiere Blue GU13
5 wins, 3 losses, 19 goals for, 9 goals against in 8v8 Buckeye Elite, 2nd place.  Ranked #5 in the state by NationalSoccerRanking.com.  Lost in first round of state cup to TFA Elite 3-2.

2)  BSA Celtic White
3 wins, 1 loss, 2 ties, 12 GF, 5 GA in our division of 11v11 Buckeye Elite, 2nd place.
Team Website shows they are playing both BPL and TPL (as of today).  Ranked #15 in state by clubsoccer.com.

3)  CUP Freedom
4 wins, 4 losses, 14 GF, 16 GA in 8v8 Buckeye Elite, 4th place.  Ranked #9 in the state by NSR.  Lost in first round of state cup to Hammer Premier 3-1.

4)  Tri State FA Elite
2 wins, 2 losses, 1 tie, 11 GF, 11 GA in 8v8 Buckeye Elite, 6th place.  Made it to the 2nd round of the state cup, where they lost to finalist OP Green Dublin 5-1.

5)  Team Ohio GU13
1 win, 2 losses, 3 ties, 7 GF, 7 GA in our 11v11 Buckeye Elite, 4th place.  Played us very tough in the spring.

6)  Crew Jrs. Gold
4 wins, 0 losses, 4 ties, 22 GF, 10 GA, finished third behind 1st place WC White in the 8v8 Buckeye Premier division.  Lost in first round of state cup to eventual champ CUP FC 2-0.

7)  "Barca", new club from Columbus per Paulo, which I assume means they are Barcelona Ohio FC who previously only fielded boys teams. Looks like they are fielding only a single girls team at the club, this Barca U13 Girls

8)  Lexington FC Premier
1 win, 4 losses, 2 GF, 10 GA, finished in 9th place in the 8v8 Buckeye Elite.

9)  Hilliard FC Blue
2 wins, 6 losses, 5 GF, 29 GA, finished in 7th place in the 8v8 Buckeye Elite.

Our team was ranked #4 in the state by Club Soccer rankings for the spring season and #6 by National Soccer Rankings.  Which probably doesn't mean much but is fun to look at.

Paulo,

The white team will be in Xenia at the Athletes in Action complex the weekend of August 5-7. I am inviting three other teams to join me in some scrimmages on Saturday morning, August 6th. Each team will have three games. They will be 45 minutes long with no halves and no refs. The times will be 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00. As we talked today, I would love to have you join us if you could. Let me know asap so I can make the plans.

I have also invited the BSA Celtics and CUSA to join us Saturday morning.
